It was launched at Bain-ul-Haramain, an area between the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS), on Saturday, following the World Quran Day, which was celebrated a few days earlier.
A number of religious officials, including Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalayi, the custodian of the Astan of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, attended the opening ceremony.
According to Mohammad Khalil, an official with the Astan, 20 institutes from Iraq and a number of other countries, including Iran, Syria and Lebanon have attended the expo.
It features books and publications as well as Quran manuscripts and Quran translations.
The exhibition also includes a booth which offers lessons on reading the Holy Quran.
The international expo will run in the holy city for ten days.
